Overview

This module introduces participants to the design and operation of advanced separation processes, such as multi-component distillation, absorption, adsorption, membrane separation and multiphase separation, typically encountered in the chemical and process industries, as well as in the oil and gas industry.
The effects of diffusion, mass transfer, heat transfer and flow dynamics on the separation processes as well as the design application of the new and/or improved separation processes will also be covered in this module.

What You’ll Learn

  • Understanding of the concepts of diffusion and dispersion, and their roles in inter-phase mass transfer.
  • Develop a good understanding of the principles governing the process design and operation of multi-component distillation processes.
  • Develop a good understanding of the principles behind the design and operation of other processes, such as absorption, adsorption and membrane separation.
  • Design new and/or improved processes for the chemical and process industries, as well as the oil & gas industries.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor degree in chemical engineering or related discipline
  • At least one year relevant working experience
 

Certificate and Assessment

An SITLEARN Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the CHE6006 module, and
  • Undertake the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend at least 75% of the CHE6006 module, and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper will earn 6 ECTS credits, which are stackable for Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering

In order to be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:

  2.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2.  Be at least 40 years old
  3.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

Course Series

These modules are stackable towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering (PGCert CE) or can be taken individually as a single module as follows:

Each module carries 6 ECTS credits which are stackable for graduate qualification of PGCert CE. Candidates who pass any of the above 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering (PGCert CE) by SIT.
