Overview
Students will learn advanced design knowledge and skills in designing flat slab and irregular slab systems, slender columns, and non-flexural members such as deep beams, corbels, dapped beams and beams with openings. This module will also provide students with the latest knowledge and recent development in precast concrete structures. Topics covered in Precast Technology include Materials and production; frames, components and connections; design of skeletal frames; composite construction; design of precast floors; joints and connections; structural integrity; handling, transportation and erection.
What You’ll Learn
Design of flat slabs
- Hand calculations and FEA analysis will be used to analyse complex two way spanning flat slab systems. The results of the analyses will be used to design the elements.
Slender columns
- Principles of second order analyses will be applied to the design of slender concrete columns.
Continuous beams
- The analysis of continuous beams will be covered, including both hand calculations and FEA methods. The design method, including moment redistribution will be covered following this.
Design of Post Tensioned members
- Analysis and design of post tensioned members, including beams and slabs. Construction methods will also be reviewed.
Design of Pre Tensioned members
- Analysis and design of pre-tensioned members, including long span girders. Fabrication methods will be considered.
Who Should Attend
- Civil Engineers, Site Engineers, Field Engineers, Project Engineers
- Construction Managers
