Overview

While the Linear Economy has afforded us immense growth and abundance, its utility for the development of our society moving into the 21st Century is waning. We will need to investigate new models of the economy that will continue to allow us to thrive. The Circular Economy is the most viable system we have to achieve this and has the potential to be worth $4.5 trillion USD by 2030. This presents an immense opportunity for the people, organisations, and nations that can participate in it.

The Singapore Green Plan aims to position the nation as a leader in the green economy, but what can we do as individuals and the organisations we represent? What kind of leadership is needed on the ground to rally a new wave of change? What business strategies do we need to employ to enable our organisations to reap the benefits of the Circular Economy? What type of design strategies do we need to rethink? How do we sustainably innovate on the products, services, and experiences that our organisations offer?

Introduction to Circularity is a primer on Circularity for people who are interested in sustainability and the Circular Economy. This 1-day basic course focuses on Circularity (also known as Circular Economy). The overview of Circularity covers key concepts, principles, and examples. This provides cross-disciplinary foundational knowledge for participants that is necessary for later knowledge-building for more specific areas.

Towards the end of the session, there will be an introduction to Circular Design principles, processes, and practices, which prepares participants for the intermediate courses in the series. The pedagogical approach will be a mixture of content lectures, hands-on activities, and case studies.
