Overview

Cybersecurity is gaining prominence at the highest government levels in many countries. It is a priority for cybersecurity professionals to formulate holistic and sensible cyber strategies at the national level, to deal with cyber threats, ranging from state-sponsored players to rogue private corporations and individuals. This course aims to provide an understanding of the relationship between cyber warfare and war strategies as well as various national cyber strategies that are presently being employed by countries and the role of legal governance in cyberwar. This course will also prepare you to be equipped in formulating holistic and sensible cyber strategies to deal with cyber threats.

  • The cybersecurity strategy of big powers such as the United States and China
  • Singapore’s Cyber Security Strategy and the Legal Governance Framework such as the Cybersecurity Act (2018) and Personal Data Protection Act (2012).

  • Directors of companies and senior management members responsible for cybersecurity, information technology, human resources, risk management, corporate compliance and finance; or
  • Information security, forensic investigators, analysts, auditors, accountants, corporate compliance and risk management professionals, cybersecurity researchers; or
  • Members of the Armed Forces and law enforcement professionals involved in cybersecurity
 

Prerequisites

University degree or at least 2 years of working experience.

 

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the course, and
  • Undertake both the theory and practical examination

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who
  • Attend 75% of the course, and
  • Achieve at least 50% in both the theory and practical examination
 

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is there any technical skill needed as pre-requisite?
    • No technical skill or pre-qualification is needed as there are no laboratory requirements but you must at least not be adverse to the topic of cybersecurity at large.
  2. What are the assessments like?
    • The assessment will include a mixture of the final examination, a class presentation, case study report and tutorial participation.
  3. What are the basic qualifications to apply?
    • University degree in any discipline or 2 years of working experience. But note that you should be ready to spend time reading up before class in order to benefit maximally from the class discussions.
  4. Can I apply if I have a Polytechnic diploma?
    • Yes, but you will need to have a least 2 years of working experience.
  5. Is this a part-time or full-time course?
    • It is a part-time course in the evening, every Tuesday from 7 pm to 10 pm.
  6. Must I be in the information technology industry to apply?
    • No, but you must be interested at least in cybersecurity at the minimum.
  7. Can I join in the class just to audit without taking any assessment?
    • As SSG funding is available, all eligible participants are required to participate in the assessments.
  8. What will I obtain after attending this course?
    • Upon meeting the attendance requirements, a Certificate of Attainment (Non-Credit Bearing) in Cybersecurity: Strategy and Legal Governance by Singapore Institute of Technology will be awarded to participants who passed the assessments. Otherwise, a Certificate of Participation in Cybersecurity: Strategy and Legal Governance by Singapore Institute of Technology, will be awarded to participants.

SkillsFuture Funding


In order to be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2.  Be at least 40 years old
  3.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

 

Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP)

This is a Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) supported course. If you are an NTUC member, you can enjoy 50% unfunded course fee support for up to $250 each year for courses supported under UTAP. Terms and conditions apply.
