Overview

Hybrid instruction mode will be employed which combines didactic classroom teaching sessions with facilitated case-based learning, online learning activities and practical demonstration. The module is offered concurrently with supervised clinical practice to develop competency in small parts ultrasound scans.

This module is designed to develop appropriate knowledge, skills and attitude in the investigation of small parts such as breast, thyroid, testes and anterior abdominal wall. At the end of this module, students will be able to recognize the normal and abnormal ultrasound findings. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in any one or all of these areas. Students will be guided in the competent production, interpretation, and assessment and reporting of these small parts ultrasound images.

Topics include common indications and sonographic scanning technique/protocol for examination of the breast, thyroid, testes and anterior abdominal wall. Relevant benign and malignant imaging appearances of the breast, thyroid and testicular nodules and other common pathologies as well as technical pitfalls associated with sonographic imaging of these areas will be discussed.
