Overview

This module covers analytical and computational techniques for solving process engineering problems such as those encountered transfer processes, fluid mechanics, reactor engineering, process control and modelling.

This module covers the following topics:
  • Liner algebra
  • Solution of systems of nonlinear equations
  • Ordinary differential equations
  • Partial differential equations

What You’ll Learn

  • Linear algebra: Eigen-decomposition methods focusing on LU decomposition and SVD
  • Principal Components Analysis and Multivariate Statistics
  • Solution of systems of nonlinear equations
  • Numerical solution of ordinary differential equations: Initial value problem. Boundary value problems.
  • Numerical solution of partial differential equations.
  • MATLAB will be extensively used throughout the course

Chemical Engineers and Process Engineers


Prerequisites

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • At least one year relevant working experience
 

Certificate and Assessment

An SITLEARN Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the CHE6001 module, and
  • Undertake the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who
  • Attend 75% of the CHE6001 module, and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper will earn 6 ECTS credits, which are stackable for Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering

SkillsFuture Funding


In order to be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2.  Be at least 40 years old
  3.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

Course Series

Find out more about the Modular Certification Courses - Chemical Engineering (CE)

These modules are stackable towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering (PGCert CE) or can be taken individually as a single module as follows:

Each module carries 6 ECTS credits which are stackable for graduate qualification of PGCert CE. Candidates who pass any of the above 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Chemical Engineering (PGCert CE) by SIT.
