Overview
The course is a collaboration with Social Service Institute. It is designed in accordance with the Skills Framework for Social Service and developed specifically for the social service sector.
This course is designed to equip the social service sector with the appropriate knowledge to comply with the legal and other Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements. It aims to equip participants with the appropriate knowledge to develop a Risk Management Plan to eliminate or reduce risk to a level that is reasonably practical. The steps include identifying the hazards, assessing the risks, implementing, and monitoring of control measures.
This course covers the fundamental topics essential to maintaining WSH within an organisation. This course will benefit new or current administrative and facilities officers working in the social service agencies and settings, who are looking to boost their skillsets and knowledge.
The course will cover the following:
- Understand the WSH Act and its applicable subsidiaries legislation;
- Develop a Risk Management Plan;
- Develop an incident investigation process;
- Introduction to Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response.
What You’ll Learn
WSH Act and its subsidiary legislation:
- Describe the guiding principle of WSH Act
- Interpret the legal requirement for WSH Regulation:
- Risk Management
- Incident Reporting
- WSH Committee
Risk Management:
- Describe the 5-steps Risk Management Process
- Develop an activity-based risk assessment
- Apply and determine the appropriate control measure using the hierarchy of control measures
Incident Investigation and Analysis:
- Develop an incident investigation plan
- Apply the appropriate analysis tool during incident analysis
- Determine the appropriate Corrective Action and Preventive Actions (CAPAs)
Emergency Responses:
- Understand the difference between Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Responses
- Develop an Emergency Response Plan
Who Should Attend
The course should be attended by individuals who are interested in improving Safety and Health in the social service agencies and settings. They may include:
- Administrative Officer
- Facilities Officer / Executive
- Operations Executive
Prerequisites
English proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) level 5 and above
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
- Attend 75% of the course, and
- Undertake non-credit bearing assessment (1-hour written assessment) during course

SkillsFuture Funding
In order to be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
- Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident or LTVP+ Holder
- Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy
To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
- Be a Singaporean Citizen
- Be at least 40 years old
- Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the course fees (i.e. the SSG course fee grant amount) directly from the trainees and/or their sponsoring organisations, where applicable, should the requirements not be fulfilled by the trainee.
SIT reserves the right to make changes to published course information, including dates, times, venues, fees and instructors without prior notice.
