Overview

Biomechanics is the science that investigates the effects of forces on biological tissues, organs and systems, in relation to biological and medical problems. The study of musculoskeletal biomechanics provides a fundamental understanding of the mechanical principles of human body movements. It also helps to address problems related to human’s health, healthcare and performance. In orthopaedic applications, biomechanics concepts are employed to enhance the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of total joint replacements (TJRs).

This 3-day course will cover the fundamentals and use of biomechanics for complementing healthcare solutions for musculoskeletal disorders, rehabilitation and athletes’ performance. The use of patient-specific finite element analysis and in-vitro cadaveric study for the investigation of fixation performance of TJRs and implant design requirements will be presented. Hands-on practical sessions on gait analysis (motion capture) and biomechanical testing (using digital image correlation – DIC) will be conducted for the attendees to have a better appreciation on experimental biomechanics.

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2. Be at least 40 years old
  3. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
