Overview

In view of the Phase Two (Heightened Alert) measures for Institutes of Higher Learning in relation to CET by MOE (16 May to 13 June 2021), this course will be conducted online.

This module equips students with the fundamentals of the elasto-plastic soil behaviour which forms the basis of constitutive relationships of soils. The finite element method will be introduced, with emphasis on its application to constitutive soil models. Practical examples of applications of various models in geotechnical engineering will be discussed. Topics covered include critical state soil mechanics, finite element method, common soil models, application of finite element modelling in geotechnical engineering and various case studies.
