Overview
The module aims to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the ultrasound physics and instrumentation that will support their learning and practice in the diagnostic ultrasound field. The course will consist of lectures, student directed group work and case-based discussion in a collaborative and supportive learning environment. The module content focuses on the function of the controls of the ultrasound machine to facilitate the application of knowledge learnt to produce an optimised image in the clinical setting.
What You’ll Learn
- Discuss the production and interaction of sound waves with matter
- Explain the various components and functions of the transducer and the machine controls as well as its effects on the final image quality
- Recognise and minimise the unwanted image artifacts
- Explain the criteria of a diagnostic quality image discuss the various sonographic scanning techniques used in image acquisition and optimisation
- Explain the principles in tissue characterisation
- Recognise equipment or transducer faults and perform simple quality assurance checks for verification
- Understand the bio-effects and ALARA principle (as low as reasonable achievable) in ultrasound
Who Should Attend
- Radiographers practising ultrasound
- Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work
