Overview
Hybrid instruction mode which combines didactic classroom teaching sessions with facilitated case-based learning, online learning activities and practical demonstration. The module is offered concurrently with supervised clinical practice to develop competency in sonography of the male and female pelvis . The focus of this module is to provide participants with the required knowledge and skills in pelvic ultrasound. The topics for male pelvis will include common indications for ultrasound, gross and sonographic anatomy of the prostate, scanning techniques, normal and abnormal findings of the prostate and seminal vesicles and technical pitfalls of prostate sonography. The proposed topics for female pelvis include gross and sonographic anatomy of the female pelvis, menstrual phases and relevant imaging appearances, scanning protocols, techniques and common pathologies as well as technical pitfalls associated with female pelvic sonography. Groin sonography will also be taught in this module.
What You’ll Learn
- Discuss the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the male and female pelvic organs, major vessels, retroperitoneum and
urinary tracts.
- Demonstrate independent and collaborative clinical decision making to perform the pelvic ultrasound procedure (transabdominal and transvaginal for female pelvis), differentiate the sonographic appearance of normal structures from pathologic conditions and to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
- Acquire hands-on ultrasound scanning skills of the abdomen include transabdominal and transvaginal for female pelvis and perform ultrasound examination proficiently in their day-to-day clinical environment
- Demonstrate confidence to perform and interpret pelvis ultrasound scans, and communicate findings clearly and accurately with the radiologists
- Demonstrate confidence to perform and interpret ultrasound scans of the groin/inguinal region to rule out hernia or non-hernia pathologies.
- Explain the significance of clinical tests and complimentary modalities relevant to pelvic systems
