Overview
Ultrasound involves the use of high frequency ultrasound waves to produce diagnostic quality images. This is a 6-day intensive “hands on” training program that is designed for ultrasound practitioners such as radiographers or sonographers who wish to pursue a postgraduate qualification.
This course aims to provide candidates with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the vascular ultrasound field. Candidates will develop an understanding of Doppler physics and its application and importance in vascular scanning. Topics covered include physiology of normal circulation, the process of vascular disease and its effect on the normal circulation, the ultrasound techniques involved in scanning the cerebro-vascular system, upper and lower limb vessels, and abdominal vessels as well as less common indications for vascular ultrasound. Candidates will also develop an insight into the role of ultrasound and other supplementary imaging tests for the diagnosis of various venous and arterial disease.
What You’ll Learn
- Identify, describe and justify the selection of imaging parameters and equipment settings as well as patient care for selected vascular system.
- Perform routine examination of vascular ultrasound of selected vascular system according to standard protocol.
- Interpret routine sonographic imaging of the selected vascular system.
- Recognise and describe the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the lower and upper limb venous and arterial systems, carotid arteries, and abdominal vasculature.
- Recognise when modifications to routine scanning approaches are required and describe the limitations of ultrasound in regards to imaging the selected vascular system.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making skills in vascular sonographic practice.
Who Should Attend
- Radiographers practising ultrasound
- Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work
