Overview
Hybrid instruction mode will be employed which combines didactic classroom teaching sessions with facilitated case-based learning, online learning activities and practical demonstration. The module is offered concurrently with supervised clinical practice to develop competency in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
In this module, the student will develop an understanding of a range of musculoskeletal examinations and demonstrate competency in sonography of the shoulder and other musculo-skeletal structures. Topics include principles of musculo-skeletal ultrasound, common indications, protocol and scanning technique of the various upper and lower limb musculo-skeletal structures. Students also develop an insight into the role of ultrasound and other supplementary imaging tests (x-rays and MRI) for the diagnosis of musculo-skeletal disease.
What You’ll Learn
On completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Identify, describe and justify the selection of imaging parameters and equipment settings as well as patient care for ultrasound examinations of the musculo-skeletal system.
- Demonstrate confidence in performing ultrasound examination of the shoulder following a systematic protocol.
- Recognise and describe the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the lower and upper limb musculo-skeletal structures and relevant imaging artifacts
- Recognise when modifications to routine scanning approaches are required and describe the limitations of ultrasound in regards to imaging the selected musculo-skeletal structure.
- Demonstrate independent and collaborative clinical decision making to differentiate the sonographic appearance of normal structures from pathologic conditions and to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities detected on ultrasound
Who Should Attend
- Radiographers practising ultrasound
- Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work
