SITizens Learning Credits

Design’s impact on business can no longer be questioned. However, Design needs to show deep accountability to the business. Designers with the most success are business-aware. It is becoming more apparent that different sectors require more successful designers involved in strategic decisions, hence, it is important for designers to learn the language of business.

This course aims to provide participants with an overall big-picture understanding of business vocabulary, how models are prepared and used, and the concepts underlying business strategies with some hands-on practice to obtain a firm grasp of those concepts. Participants get to understand the blend of business thinking with experience design, carried out in three different contexts – digital transformation, physical solutioning and creative management. They get to learn and develop insights into a business perspective while transcribing design value to cross-functional partners. Above all, it is to give participants the tools to understand how a business works, foresee implications of risk and choice, and break down complexities and uncertainties. By applying known methodologies, frameworks, and practical steps, participants could possibly develop business acumen faster.

What You’ll Learn

Business models, financial portfolios, and industry regulations are not typically the focus of a designer’s work. Yet, each of these can be impacted by design. The tools and frameworks in this course are meant to help you understand fundamental business concepts. This will put you in a better position to influence strategic decisions beyond the typical purview of design. The key concepts laid out in this course are:

  • Appreciating the business impact of design;
  • Getting to know business vocabulary, models and strategies;
  • Developing a business perspective;
  • Transcribing design value;
  • Communicating design options to business partners;
  • Optimizing cross-functional understanding.

Who Should Attend
