Overview

The aim of the module is to develop a holistic approach to brand strategy, which draws from contemporary research and theory within the branding literature. The module will take a four stranded interdisciplinary approach:
  • Brand strategy;
  • Brand portfolio management;
  • Brand culture and;
  • The role of brands within consumer society.
It is envisaged that this academic knowledge will provide designers-in-training with a brand management toolkit which can be usefully incorporated into strategic branding decisions within organisations. The module will explore the role of culture in managing brands. It will use case examples of world renowned iconic brands and the importance of culture in the construction of trans-national brand meaning.
The module also aims to develop an appreciation amongst the learners for the value of interdisciplinary research approaches within the broad field of marketing considerations.

Prerequisites

Candidates should possess a Bachelor degree in any discipline.
Candidates without a Bachelor degree can be admitted on a case-by-case basis upon evaluation by the course director.

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the course
  • Undertake non-credit bearing assessment (during course)

A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of each respective module; and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment

SkillsFuture Funding

To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2. Be at least 40 years old
  3. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

SIT reserves the right to make changes to published course information, including dates, times, venues, fees and instructors without prior notice.

There are a total of 19 credit-bearing modules, of which there is one core 12 CR module (DSI6000) and a choice of four out of fifteen 3 CR modules to meet the requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Design Strategy and Innovation. Candidates who pass the core module (DSI6000) and 4 elective modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of ≥ 2.5 will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Design Strategy and Innovation by SIT.
