SITizens Learning Credits

Overview

This module provides participants with an in-depth knowledge and competency in selected topics in power engineering from the perspective of practicing engineers. It covers design considerations of societal responsibilities, public safety, environment and sustainability, with the aim of broadening and deepening the students’ knowledge and skillsets thereby benefitting their careers in the power engineering industries in the long term.

What You’ll Learn

Professional Engineering Practices
  • Understanding and putting into practice of ethics, safety, societal considerations and engineering standards in design and management of electrical projects;
Design for Safety
  • Conducting health and safety risk assessment to design electrical installations for prevention of hazards arising from electric shock, arc flash, over current, thermal effects and exposure to the electromagnetic field, to comply with relevant standards;
Electromagnetic Compatibility and Functional Safety
  • Understanding the principles and theories of EMC and EMI coupling mechanisms, and the application of techniques and measures to achieve functional safety.
Lightning Protection System
  • Understanding the nature and characteristics of the lightning phenomenon; application of standards for lightning risk assessment and the design of lightning protection system for structure and low voltage systems.

Who Should Attend

  • Graduate engineers preparing for electrical Professional Practice Exam (PPE) paper of the Professional Engineers Board, Singapore
  • Practising engineers who wish to gain an in-depth knowledge and competency in the selected topics in power engineering
  • Graduates of SIT-NU BEng Electrical Power Engineering (EPE) programme

SITizens Learning Credits (SLC) - Eligible Course

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge in electrical engineering acquired through BEng or advanced diploma course.

 

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend 75% of the module
  • Undertake the Continuous Assessment

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of the programme, and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper will earn 6 ECTS credits, which are stackable for PGCert or MSc qualifications.

SkillsFuture Funding
To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or LTVP+ Holder
  2.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2.  Be at least 40 years old
  3.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
 
SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

Course Series

These modules are stackable towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (PGCert EEE) or can be taken individually as a single module as follows:

  • EEE6001 Power Systems Analysis and Control
  • EEE6002 Power Electronic Conversion
  • EEE6003 Electrification for Transportation and Built Environment
  • EEE6004 Power Systems Fault Analysis and Protection
  • EEE6005 Power Quality and Reliability
  • EEE6006 Smart Grids and Cyber Security
  • EEE6007 Analysis and Design of Electrical Machine Systems
  • EEE6008 Condition Monitoring in Power Engineering
  • EEE6109 Design for Sustainability in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • EEE6110 Professional Practices in Electrical Engineering

Each module carries 6 ECTS credits which are stackable for graduate qualification of PGCert EEE. Candidates who pass any of the above 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (PGCert EEE) by SIT. All the above modules are subsidised by SkillsFuture Singapore. Eligible individual may enjoy up to a maximum of 5 subsidised modules.

The above modules have been renamed from EPE60XX to EEE60XX for modules starting from Sep 2019. There is otherwise no change in stackability towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (PGCert EEE)
