Overview

To provide module participants with in-depth knowledge of issues facing energy sector,  management and scheduling in conventional centralized power generation business to meet the economic dispatch and the power systems stability targets, and to meet the challenge of the increasing penetration of non-dispatchable renewables. The course contents include:

  • Energy Resource Sector -  Conventional and renewable energy sources, issues facing the energy sector, energy-environment interactions, regulation and governance of energy sector.
  • Electricity Market and Generation Business - Optimization of generation facilities to achieve some common target, usually either matching the energy demand at minimum cost or maximize revenues from energy production, while subjecting to transmission and operational constraints.
  • Economics of Energy – Understanding the factors including renewables influencing the supply and demand of energy and their impact on the management of electricity generation. Various market tools and mechanisms including interchange, brokering, pooling and auction in the energy market, methods of demand forecasting and econometric models are examined.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • At least one year of relevant working experience
 

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who
  • Attend 75% of the module
  • Undertake the Continuous Assessment 

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend at least 75% of the module; and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment and Exam Paper will earn 6 ECTS credits, which are stackable for Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering

SkillsFuture Funding
To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded by SkillsFuture, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1.  Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2.  Be at least 40 years old
  3.  Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

Course Series

Find out more about the Modular Certification Courses - Electrical Power Engineering (EPE)

These modules are stackable towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering (PGCert EPE) or can be taken individually as a single module as follows:

Each module carries 6 ECTS credits which are stackable for graduate qualification of PGCert EPE. Candidates who pass any of the above 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering (PGCert EPE) by SIT. All the above modules are subsidised by SkillsFuture Singapore. Eligible individual may enjoy up to a maximum of 5 subsidised modules.
