Overview

5G is envisioned to be the key technology enabler for digital transformation in all industry sectors. 5G systems will connect almost everything and anything, e.g., vehicles, robots, machines, appliances, sensors, etc., and people. In the near future, it will become difficult to imagine life without 5G.

This module will equip students with knowledge and understanding of 5G technologies, the use cases and innovations enabled by 5G in smart nation and key industry sectors. The module will be delivered in a holistic approach, through a mixture of face-to-face and on-line lectures, self-paced learning, interactive workshop and discussion sessions. Through SIT’s unique applied learning approach, and tapping on the SIT’s 5G Trans Lab facilities, testbed, and modelling and simulation platform, students will explore disruptive innovations made possible by 5G with hands-on examples and projects. 

This module is designed and offered to students with a first technical degree working in the industry who would like to extend their knowledge and practical skills in the growth areas of 5G mobile communications.

  • Understand the key role of 5G to enable lead use cases in smart nation and key industry sectors such as but not limited to:
    • Industry 4.0
    • Intelligent Transportation and smart mobility, including autonomous vehicles and drones
    • Augmented reality (AR) / Virtual reality (VR) / Extended reality (xR)
    • Smart estate
    • Maritime, smart port
  • Understand 5G’s commonality to and differentiation from other wireless technologies such as 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc
  • Determine network capability requirements for supported applications
  • Test, measure, and analyse 5G system and network performance with equipment
  • Build 5G-enabled applications
  • Be equipped to take more in-depth 5G modules such as 5G for Industry 4.0, 5G for Intelligent Transportation, 5G security, etc

SITizens Learning Credits (SLC) - Eligible Course

This course is SITizens Learning Credits (SLC) eligible. Please refer to the user guide how to register for courses utilising your SLC.

Prerequisites

  • Candidates should possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Science and Engineering, and preferably have done IT projects with two years of project management background.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in other disciplines can be admitted on a case-by-case basis upon evaluation by the course director. Unsuccessful candidates can still take the course, but on a not-for-credit basis and a Certificate of Participation will be issued for each module completed.


Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the course
  • Undertake non-credit bearing assessment (during course)

A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of each respective module; and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment

  • Please note that GST reflected in the fees table will be revised to 8% GST if payment is received by SIT on or after 1 January 2023. The company or trainee may be liable for an additional GST amount.
  • All figures include GST. GST applies to individuals and Singapore-registered companies.
  • You can opt for either SkillsFuture Funding or Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy. Both cannot be combined.

Terms & Conditions:

SkillsFuture Funding

To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident or LTVP+ Holder
  2. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2. Be at least 40 years old
  3. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

SIT reserves the right to make changes to published course information, including dates, times, venues, fees and instructors without prior notice.

Postgraduate Certificate in Frontier Technologies in Infocomm Technology

Modules

  • FTI6001 Managing and Leading Enterprise Artificial Intelligence Projects
  • FTI6002 Internet of Things for a Connected World
  • FTI6003 5G for Digital Transformation
  • FTI6004 Cybersecurity in the New Economy

Each module carries 6 credits. Candidates who pass all 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Frontier Technologies by SIT.
