Overview
In view of the Phase Two (Heightened Alert) measures for Institutes of Higher Learning in relation to CET by MOE (16 May to 13 June 2021), this course will be conducted online.
Cognitive rehabilitation is an important aspect of the overall management for patients with mild to moderate dementia, e.g. early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. This module provides participants an opportunity to adopt an evidence-based approach to manage elder patients with cognitive disorders. The pathophysiology of dementia and the impact on cognitive functions are addressed. The effects of ageing on brain function and the consequent functional, behavioral and psychosocial outcomes are explored. This module uses blended learning pedagogy and flexible scheduling for adult learners. The learning activities and assessment strategies will reflect workplace demands, upskill module participants and enhance service delivery.
What You’ll Learn
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the cognitive impairments associated with ageing and dementia and critique the evidence based interventions that are used in the management of this condition.
- Source, appraise and translate the relevant research in the field of dementia and it’s application to the real world
- Analyse the impact of cognitive decline and dementia on the person, their family and wider community
- Outline the psychosocial, financial and economic costs of dementia care and how this varies between countries and cultures
- Design an evidence based service initiative/intervention that enhances dementia care and/or support for carers
