Overview

Develop skills and techniques to facilitate Workplace Learning at your workplace through scoping, designing and implementing an actual Workplace Learning project for SIT’s Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) students. Learn and practice Workplace Learning mentoring and coaching skills through individual coaching sessions and real-life supervision of IWSP students.

* The Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) is a distinctive feature of SIT's degree programmes, which SIT students will undertake 6 to 12 months of paid employment within companies relevant to their degree programmes under the supervision of their Workplace Supervisor to develop specific professional competencies. The programme consists of three phrases:

  • Phase 1: Pre-IWSP
    1. 1 Understanding the learner’s profile, prior learning and current training gaps
    1. 2 Scope objectives and intended outcomes of Workplace Learning with IWSP company to ensure alignment with organisation’s business goals and corporate values
    1. 3 Attend a 1-day training programme which will include the following components:
      1. 1. 3. 1 Understand the context of IWSP in SIT’s Applied Learning Model and Workplace Learning Framework
      2. 1. 3. 2 Learn how Workplace Learning is aligned with the Company’s Core Values and Corporate Training & Development Plans
      3. 1. 3. 3Introduction to the GROW (Goals, Reality, Options, Will) Coaching Model
      4. 1. 3. 4 Learn skills and techniques for effective communication and feedback
      5. 1. 3. 5 Learn Workplace Learning Assessment Principles, Methods and Tools
      6. 1. 3. 6 Identify and scope a suitable Workplace Learning project with key deliverables and outcomes articulated
      7. 1. 3. 7 Develop a Coaching and Implementation Plan to coach the IWSP student through the Workplace Learning project
      8. 1. 3. 8 Develop a Workplace Assessment Plan outlining methods and tools to be used to assess IWSP student
  • Phase 2: IWSP
    1. 2. 1 Brief IWSP students on details of Workplace Learning project and planned assessment
    2. 2. 2 Implement the Workplace Learning project
    3. 2. 3 Practice execution of Workplace Coaching skills and techniques
    4. 2. 4 Identify challenges of Workplace Learning and propose solutions to overcome the challenges
    5. 2. 5 Document and discuss the progress status of the Workplace Learning Coaching and Implementation plan with the Trainer
    6. 2. 6 Implement proposed solutions and document outcomes achieved
    7. 2. 7 Review Workplace Assessment plan and prepare required resources for the assessment
    8. 2. 8 Assess IWSP student’s performance during IWSP using SIT’s Employer Assessment Form by applying the appropriate assessment method
    9. 2. 9 Document assessment outcome and relevant evidence to support the decision
  • Phase 3: Post-IWSP
    1. 3. 1 Communicate assessment outcome and feedback to IWSP student
    2. 3. 2 Receive feedback from IWSP student on execution of Workplace coaching strategies
    3. 3. 3 Review and evaluate Workplace Learning, coaching experience and effectiveness of assessment plan with Trainer
    4. 3. 4 Recommend improvements for future Workplace Learning initiatives and assessment
    5. 3. 5 Cross-sharing of best practices for successful Workplace Learning and Assessment

Who Should Attend

  • This programme is targeted at companies who would like to build up or strengthen their Workplace Learning capability to enhance employees’ performance through better knowledge and skills transfer for upskilling and reskilling of their employees.


Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Attainment (Non-credit bearing) will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of the course
  • Undertake non-credit bearing assessment during the course
  • Assessment: MCQ and Oral Questions

Assessment of Workplace Learning Outcomes for IWSP Supervisors

  • Introduction
  • Getting to know the Trainer and Participants
  • Informing Leaners of Learning Outcomes
  • Co-create learning outcomes of a workplace learning programme (such as for IWSP) as derived from the university’s requirements, the company’s (and their own) core values, as well as the students’ passion and interests
  • Design simple rubrics to assess competencies, including both technical and transferable skills
  • Articulate the principles of good assessment in the context of workplace learning
  • Appreciate their value as workplace supervisors based on SIT’s applied learning model and the workplace learning framework

PHASE 2: 2-MONTH PRACTICUM

SkillsFuture Funding

To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2. Be at least 40 years old
  3. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
  4. Employees of SMEs

SME Definition:

  • at least 30% local shareholding AND
  • Group annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million OR Group employment size of not more than 200 employees
SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.
