SITizens Learning Credits

Robots are increasingly being deployed in the industry to improve quality and enhance productivity in the bid to realize Industry 4.0 in the coming decade. The understanding of fundamental robotic theories at a level beyond just the buzzword is necessary to program an industrial robot efficiently and perform simulations of the robotic automations.

This workshop will equip participants with the theories of robotics and related mathematical tools for robotic modelling. Topics will include forward & inverse kinematics, Denavit-Hartenberg representation, Jacobian and trajectory planning. There will be hands-on exercises which allow participants to apply the knowledge of robot kinematics. These knowledge will allow the participants to gain a quantitative understanding of robotic system commonly employed in the industries.

To aid companies in transforming their capabilities through their human capital, and support Singapore’s drive towards becoming a Smart Nation, this course is mapped to the Singapore Economic Development Board’s Singapore Smart Industry Readiness Index – Dimension 4 Shop Floor Automation.

Teaching Team

What You’ll Learn

  • Forward & Inverse Kinematics
  • This topic will establish the fundamental mathematical tools needed to describe the position & orientation of the end-effector for a typical robot arm.

  • Denavit-Hartenberg representation
  • This topic will introduce the convention to assign coordinate frames on the joints of a robot arm to describe its movement.

  • Jacobian
  • This topic will provide an introduction to Jacobian, which is a representation of the geometry elements of a robotic mechanism in time.

  • Trajectory Planning
  • This topic will cover the basics of trajectory planning for the end-effector of robotic arm in joint space and Cartesian space.

Who Should Attend

  • Participants who are interested in robot programming, and implementing robotic automation for industrial processes.
