Overview
Ultrasound plays a crucial role in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with chronic musculoskeletal injuries. This 6-day interactive workshop will provide participants with the underpinning academic knowledge and clinical skills needed to undertake a range of musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations. The workshop will focus on indications, anatomy, scanning techniques/protocol, normal and abnormal findings involved in a musculoskeletal ultrasound examination. Hands-on practical will be conducted in the afternoon sessions to supplement the didactic teaching. It is ideal for practitioners who wish to expand their scope of practice in musculoskeletal sonography and can be taken as a single module for continuing professional development.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will develop and enhance the theoretical knowledge and advanced image interpretation as well as specialist scanning skills in sonography of the shoulder and other musculoskeletal structures. Topics will include principles of musculoskeletal ultrasound, common indications, protocol and scanning technique of the various upper and lower limb musculoskeletal structures. Participants will also develop an insight into the role of ultrasound and other supplementary imaging tests (X-rays and MRI) for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disease.
On completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Understand the basic principles and technical requirement of musculoskeletal imaging
- Discuss the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the musculoskeletal structures (soft tissues such as skin, muscles, tendon, ligaments and nerves as well as bone)
- Differentiate the sonographic appearance of normal structures from pathologic conditions
- Acquire knowledge of musculoskeletal ultrasound include static and dynamic imaging, ultrasound guided musculoskeletal intervention and advanced imaging technique such as elastography
- Understand the correlation between ultrasound and other imaging technique such as x-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Who Should Attend
• Radiographers practising ultrasound
• Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work
