Overview
Ultrasound plays a crucial role in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with chronic musculoskeletal injuries. This two-day interactive workshop will be structured with lectures in the morning and hands-on sessions (in small groups) during the afternoon to allow more individualized attention. Live scanning and ultrasound-guided procedures will be conducted using volunteers and simulators or fresh tissues to improve the understanding of sonographic anatomy. Participants will have the opportunity to practice (and make mistakes) on simulators with the expert and ask questions, while scanning.
The workshop will focus on musculoskeletal injection techniques of the shoulder, wrist and hand, foot, ankle, hip and knee. It is ideal for practitioners who wish to expand their scope of practice in musculoskeletal guided injection technique and can be taken for continuing professional development (CPD) purpose.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will develop and enhance the theoretical knowledge and advanced image interpretation as well as specialist scanning skills in sonography of the shoulder and other musculoskeletal structures. Topics will include common musculoskeletal injuries and injection techniques of the shoulder, wrist, hand, knee and muscles injection for spasticity management.
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the physical principles of ultrasound imaging for the performance of upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal injections
- Recognise the sonographic anatomy during the performance of ultrasound guided musculoskeletal injections on models or simulators
- Describe various scanning planes for injection/aspiration techniques using simulators
- Demonstrate the performance of ultrasound scanning protocols of joints on live models
- Increase confidence to perform intervention techniques assisted by ultrasound guidance
Who Should Attend
- Radiographers practising ultrasound
- Professionals involved in ultrasound work (GPs, A&E clinicians, radiologists, residents, rehabilitation physicians, sports clinicians etc)
