SITizens Learning Credits

Overview

In this module, learners will understand the fundamental lighting principals in the context of performance based building design and diagnostics.
Learners will acquire detail knowledge on relevant aspects of lighting physics that affect the physiological and psychological experience of buildings, performance metrics, design and benchmarking methodologies, and contemporary simulation tools. The first-hand case studies in lighting design, technologies, and project management will also be delivered by the experienced experts in the lighting industry. Learners will apply the knowledge acquired to their lighting design project assignment. This module is for SIE students in their fourth year of studies. Student's progress shall be assessed through Continuous Assessment, final design project presentation, final report and design poster, and final examination

  • Describe lighting basics in built environment.
  • Understand the basic interaction between daylighting and electric lighting.
  • Describe lighting monitoring and control technologies and methods.
  • Synthesize different parameters affecting lighting design and its performance.
  • Conduct simulation-based lighting analysis in view of climate, occupants, energy, spatial, and temporal diversity.
  • Evaluate different lighting design strategies in terms of whole building design performance together with impacts on built environment.
  • Apply the knowledge to generate lighting design based on user needs, requirements, technology and project assessment .

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
  • Attend 75% of the course
  • Undertake non-credit bearing assessment (during course)

A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of each respective module; and
  • Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment
 

Prerequisites

  • Basic BIM MEP knowledge is required.
  • Candidate should possess a post-bachelor degree qualification, in the built environment or engineering industry.
  • Candidate must have at least one year of relevant work experience in the built environment or engineering industry.

SkillsFuture Funding

To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  2. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
  1. Be a Singaporean Citizen
  2. Be at least 40 years old
  3. Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme

SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.

SIT reserves the right to make changes to published course information, including dates, times, venues, fees and instructors without prior notice.

Course Series

Modular Certification Courses - Building Services Engineering 

These modules are stackable towards a Modular Certification Courses - Building Services Engineering (PGCert in BSE) or can be taken individually as a single module as follows:

Modules

  • SIE6003 Construction Management using BIM
  • SIE6015 Project Management
  • SIE6017 Indoor Environmental Quality Engineering
  • SIE6018 Lighting Technology for Building Services
  • SIE6021 Structure Vibration and Control

Each module carries ECTS 6 credits. Candidates who pass any 4 modules (totalling 24 credits) with a CGPA of 2.5 or more will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Building Services Engineering by SIT. Collectively, they can be taken as the Master of Engineering Technology in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services).
