The proportion of Singaporeans aged 65 years and over is 13.7% in 2018 and expected to double by 2030. Older people may experience deconditioning due to disuse or sedentary lifestyle, long-term conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease or post-surgical complications (e.g. immobility from hip fracture reduction surgery). The role of rehabilitation specialists is to address such issues. Both physical and mental needs of the elder persons and their caregivers have been the topics of recent research. This symposium aims to update health care professionals on recent advances in the elder person rehabilitation.
