Overview
Using interactive lectures/discussions and self-study activities, this course will assist occupational therapists to embed and apply behaviour change and lifestyle modification approaches in interventions for clients with common chronic diseases. Participants can expect to test, trial, and critique strategies and approaches both during and between sessions.
What You’ll Learn
- Discuss the principles of chronic diseases self-management, using behavioural change and lifestyle modification approaches to apply to clients with occupational performance/participation and emotional coping issues in common chronic diseases.
- Assess clients’/patients’ level of functioning, environmental factors, health literacy and needs for holistic occupational therapy intervention.
- Apply principles of behaviour change and self-management support to allow clients to set and meet goals.
- Apply behavioural change techniques to facilitate self-management and increase activity participation in clients and their families.
Who Should Attend
- Occupational Therapist with at least 2 years of clinical experience
- Therapists working with people with long term conditions
Prerequisites
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- AHPC Registered
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
- Attend at least 75% of the course
- Undertake required assessments during the course

SkillsFuture Funding
To be eligible for the 70% training grant awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
- Be a Singaporean Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident or LTVP+ Holder
- Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy
To be eligible for the 90% enhanced subsidy awarded, applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) must:
- Be a Singaporean Citizen
- Be at least 40 years old
- Not receive any other funding from government sources in respect of the actual grant disbursed for the programme
SIT reserves the right to collect the balance of the programme fees (i.e. the potential grant amount) directly from the applicants (and/or their sponsoring organisations where applicable) should the above requirements not be fulfilled.
