Overview
Ultrasound plays a crucial role in the evaluation and management of patients with chronic and systemic diseases of the endocrine system such as thyroiditis and other diseases such as breast cancer which are facing rising incidence as the ageing population grows. The workshop is introduced in response to the industry demand and government healthcare policy in expanding capacity in skills upgrading of the current healthcare workforce.
This is a 3-day intensive “hands on” training program aims to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in small parts, namely scrotal and penile; thyroid and parathyroid glands; as well as salivary glands and lymph nodes ultrasound.
At the end of this workshop, students will be able to recognize the normal and abnormal ultrasound findings and will be guided in the competent production, interpretation and assessment of these small parts ultrasound images.
Topics will include gross anatomy and physiology, embryology, clinical indications, equipment and patient preparation, techniques and sonographic protocol in the evaluation of thyroid and parathyroid glands, testis and penile, lymph nodes and salivary glands; and their normal sonographic anatomy and abnormal imaging findings.
What You’ll Learn
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the basic principles and technical requirement of small parts ultrasound scan.
- Understand the routine protocol for ultrasound imaging of the small parts such as testes and penile ultrasound, thyroid and parathyroid glands; salivary glands and lymph nodes ultrasound.
- Recognise and describe the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the testes and penile ultrasound; thyroid, parathyroid and salivary glands and lymph nodes as well as other miscellaneous parts.
- Recognise when modifications to routine scanning approaches are required and describe the limitations of ultrasound in regards to imaging the selected small parts system
