Overview
Ultrasound involves the use of high frequency ultrasound waves to produce diagnostic quality images. This is 6-day interactive workshop is designed to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the ultrasound physics and instrumentation that will support their learning and practice in the diagnostic ultrasound field.
The workshop will focus on the function of the controls of the ultrasound machine to facilitate the application of knowledge learnt to produce an optimised image. Hands-on practicals will be conducted to supplement the didactic teaching. It is ideal for practitioners who wish to expand their scope of practice in medical sonography.
What You’ll Learn
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to:
-
Discuss the interaction of sound with matter and understand the factors involved in the production of sound waves
-
List and describe the components of an ultrasound transducer and machine controls as well as its effects on the final image quality
-
Describe the various functions performed by the ultrasound system and discuss the pre-processing and post processing options
-
Explain the criteria of a diagnostic quality image discuss the various sonographic scanning techniques used in image acquisition and image optimization
-
Recognize image artifacts, equipment or transducer faults and perform simple quality assurance checks
-
Compare the different modes of ultrasound and differentiate pulsed and continuous techniques
-
Explain the principles in tissue characterization
-
Understand the safety issues such as bio-effects related to ultrasound work.
Who Should Attend
- Radiographers practising ultrasound
- Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work

What Past Participants Say
"
The course is a good refresher even for radiographers who have learnt about basic principles and physics. It is thorough and a lot of materials are given out ." -
Chun Luan, Radiographer, Singapore General Hospital
"
Very informative. Explained topics in a manner everyone can understand. [It is] simplified with examples for us to comprehend. " -
Ponsica, Sonographer, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital
"
This course is very useful for beginner sonographers as they would not have much headway in using the machine's buttons and functiosn. By understanding the physics, we are able to better apply it to the clinical setting " -
Vanessa Lam, Radiographer, Gleneagles Hospital
