Singapore standard SS 638:2018 is the new Code of Practice for Electrical Installations. This Code is a major revision of Singapore Standard CP5: 1998. This new Code is a modified adoption of BS 7671: 2008 (the 17th Edition of IET Wiring Regulations). All LV electrical installations in Singapore, as mandated by the Energy Market Authority, must comply with the provisions of the Code to ensure safety, especially from electric shock and fire in the use of electricity and relates principally to the design, selection, erection, inspection and testing of electrical installations.
This 3-day course will be delivered in a combination of lectures, class discussions, case studies and design exercises that are mainly drawn from the instructor’s consulting work. You will learn the correct interpretation and application of SS 638 through many authentic design examples.
What You’ll Learn
- Identify and interpret the new provisions in SS 638: 2018
- Apply the regulations in SS 638:2018
- Assess the general characteristics and particular requirements of an electrical installation
- Design electrical installations with appropriate earthing and bonding for protection against electric shock
- Select and size cables based on current-carrying capacity and voltage drop calculations
- Design for protection against overcurrent and faults
- Conduct LV inspection and testing to comply with the code requirements
