Overview

As manufacturers around the world make strides to build out the vision of Industry 4.0, many will have to embrace advanced machines to accelerate the digital transformation of their operations. Manufacturers will find robotic systems to be the perfect physical and cognitive partner in the race to construct their digital factories.

This advanced-level workshop is aimed at introducing participants (who are familiar with robotic fundamentals) to gain an appreciation of advanced robotic systems such as parallel and collaborative robots that are becoming critical in the digital transformation of operations. Topics will include robot mechanism design and synthesis, robot modeling as well as introduction to safety standards that are available for the development and usage of such robots. There will also be hands-on experience that will allow participants gain a better appreciation of the contents taught.

To aid companies in transforming their capabilities through their human capital, and support Singapore’s drive towards becoming a Smart Nation, this course is mapped to the Singapore Economic Development Board’s Singapore Smart Industry Readiness Index – Dimension 4 Shop Floor Automation.

What You’ll Learn

  • Introduction to Robotic Mechanism Design and Synthesis
This topic will introduce the concept of degrees-of-freedom of robotic mechanisms, including determining the degrees-of-freedom of a given mechanism, as well as mechanism synthesis which refers to the procedure of identifying a specific mechanism based on a desired motion.

  • Introduction to Parallel Robots
This topic will give an overview of parallel structured robots, including developing the robot model to facilitate in controlling a parallel robot to carry out the prescribed tasks.

  • Introduction to Collaborative Robots
This topic will give an overview of collaborative robots (i.e., cobots), including the basic components that make up a cobot, the various types of cobots developed for the different types of application as well as overview of the safety standards that are available for the development and usage of such robots..

Who Should Attend

Participants who wish to understand advanced robotics technology, in particular parallel and collaborative robots. This includes developers of robotics technology and end-users/decision-makers looking into adopting robotics technology.
